LEPL – National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (NCEQE) with relevant stakeholders (MoES, MoH, medical schools and sector councils) started an official cooperation with the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) in May, 2017. The cooperation was preceded by the reform of national QA system. European Standards and Guidelines (ESG) requirements were fully considered during the reform.

Within the cooperation, in 2018 the NCEQE is planning to get a recognition from WFME.

In case of getting the recognition from the WFME, NCEQE will be the only quality assurance agency in the region, which will have an authority to accredit medical schools and MD programs according to WFME requirements. Accreditation granted to MD programs by the NCEQE will be recognized worldwide, which means that graduates of accredited MD  programs will be eligible for applying USMLE and for employment as a doctor in the United States. Overall we believe that the recognition will help us improve the quality of medical education in Georgia and respectively in the region. 

For the preparation of recognition process, the advisory visit was held on 24-28 July 2017 with the participation of Mr. Nawar. Considering the advisory report, NCEQE has already made last changes in the relevant legislation and accordingly emplaced the appropriate procedures.

The Sector Council for Medical Education has already considered the suggestions and recommendations provided by the WFME advisor. The Sector Council for Medical Education has already adopted a new version of sector benchmark for MD which will be in force from January 1, 2019.

For the further cooperation with the WFME, it is also necessary to oversee the national standards for postgraduate medical (PGME) education according to the WFME standards for postgraduate medical education. WFME revised the PGME standards in 2015. – This is where Ministries of Education and Ministry of Health and NCEQE is looking for the collaboration for the preparation phase.   

დიპლომს შემდგომ განათლებაში თანამშრომლობა იქნება ძალიან კარგი. მათი თანამშრომლობა ოფიციალურად გამოიხატება ამ advisory visit-ბით რაც ფასიანია და საკმარისი არ არის. რეალურად ამის გაკეთება ღირს მხოლოდ მაშინ როცა ყველაფერი უკვე მზად გვექნება, რომ განაცხადის გაკეთებამდე გადახედონ.
