Mr. Giovanni Leonardi,

As you are informed I have recently joined the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia and hope you will understand the reason why will not be possible to provide the strategic framework and concept note, as promised in timeframes. I suggest not to postpone the issue in awaiting the documents and move forward the discussion. I will briefly describe the sphere of interest in frames of our collaboration and hope, provided information at this stage will be enough to initiate the cooperation.

The Universal Health Coverage and well-being of the population is one of the main priorities of the Government of Georgia. Population health care main needs, through prevention and early detection programs as well as proper treatment cost reimbursements,  are covered by the Government.

Even so, country health care system still faces the problem of equal delivery quality medical services, that is especially noticeable in the filed of oncology.

It is also remarkable that 90% of service providers are private, for-profit clinics. Though provision of high quality, cost effective oncology medical services in one entire facility/center is not existent.

Despite the fact that country in not facing the quantitative shortage of oncology services and it’s infrastructure, the existing system is rather fragmented and as a consequence - 90%  of the patients treated out of the Country are those with oncology problems.

The Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia is highly motivated to cooperate with the International Institutions and experts in the field of oncology towards  improvement of Country oncology system by detailed evaluation, gap analyses and needs assessment.

In case of your interest, we are ready to provide the detailed information in regard, with existing system description and any required information in any  format.

Sincerely,

Maia Lagvilava, MD, MHA
