This year the
10th edition of the Global Forum on Health Promotion (10GFHP) originally planned to be hosted in Ottawa, Canada will take place virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first Global Forum was convened in Geneva to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Ottawa Charter and has become an annual event of the Alliance for Health Promotion.
The unique feature of this year ‘s event is that it will be held in conjunction with the Canadian
Conference on Global Health (CCGH) with the support of our member Health
Nexus. The overall theme of the Conference is “Global Health in a Changing Climate”.
We are looking forward to an exciting landmark event honoured by a video message from
WHO Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and an interview with
Professor Ilona Kickbusch, a leading authority on health promotion, global health and health diplomacy.
Dr Ruediger Krech, Director of the Health Promotion Department in WHO, will deliver a keynote speech.
The 10th Global Forum will address the challenges for Health Promotion and Civil Society Organisations in the pandemic times. More specifically, how to use what we have learned so far for reshaping the future priorities, what we need to do differently
and how a stronger WHO-Civil Society partnership can contribute to finding a “new normal” allowing Healthy Lives and Well-being for All.
More information on the programme and practical arrangements of the Global Forum will follow shortly. For any questions don’t hesitate to contact us here.
The
new website of the Alliance will provide regular updates on the 10GFHP and the CCGH.

Health Promotion and COVID-19
Read here an interview given by Dr Ruediger Krech, WHO Director of Health
Promotion, to the German Association for Disease Prevention and Health Promotion on Covid-19 and how health promotion is contributing to the response.
"Health promotion carries out very specific functions during a pandemic and in policy-making during “peace-times”. Epidemiologists provide the data and prepare quarantine measures, but, for example, increasing
compliance or acceptance for those measures or bringing together the various interests - these are tasks for health promotion." -
Ruediger Krech
