Subject: Final draft of the Ministerial Declaration "A Sustainable Society for All Ages: Recognizing the potential of living longer"

Dear National Focal Points on Ageing,

On behalf of the Declaration Drafting Group, we are pleased to present the final draft text of the Ministerial Declaration to be tabled for adoption at the 4th Ministerial Conference on Ageing in Lisbon on 22 September 2017.
The draft text was cleared  by the Declaration Drafting Group on 15 August 2017 and takes into account majority of comments and suggestions received from the member States during the two rounds of official consultations.

You will recall that the first round of official consultations, for which the secretariat received responses from 23 member States, concluded on 7 June 2017.
The second round of official consultations concluded on 18 July (the initial deadline of 12 July was extended on the request of several member States).  For it, we received responses from 22 member States, 10 of them provided some further comments and suggestions.
The Declaration Drafting Group reviewed the received comments and suggestions and agreed on some editorial/clarifying changes in the text. We would like to thank the member States for their responses, comments and providing arguments behind their suggestions.

The Declaration Drafting Group and the secretariat hope that the present text  of the declaration could be accepted by your country.
Please note that only if absolutely unavoidable, the Declaration Drafting Group may convene during the Conference to consider some last amendments received before 19 September.

A note to UNECE member States on the release of the final draft of the Ministerial Declaration was also sent out today through the permanent missions in Geneva.
