Dear colleagues,

Attached you can find the letter I have just received and was sent by the WHO Director General to the Georgian Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs.

The letter encourages the Georgian authorities to strengthen tobacco-control, ratify the Protocol on Illicit Trade and by that address the challenges of non-communicable diseases.

The letter was sent to all member states, but it is particularly timely for Georgia, having in mind the implementation of the tobacco-control legislation, with some main provisions being enforced as of 1 May 2018.

See you all in the following days, shoulder-to-shoulder in fighting for smoke free environment and consequently better health for the people of Georgia.

Best regards,

Marijan Ivanusa
