I hope you are well. As we’re heading into the final six weeks of the campaign for Director General of the World Health Organization, I wanted to send a quick update. As you may know, at the end of January I was short-listed as one of three finalists who will advance to the final election at the World Health Assembly in May 2017. I was humbled to earn the highest number of votes in each round and hope the confidence that was exhibited at the Executive Board will continue through the final round. I truly believe that I am the best suited candidate given my technical, operational, political and diplomatic skills to lead the World Health Organization into the future, and I think my vision and priorities align closely with Georgia and the European region. As you know, if elected Director General, achieving universal health coverage will be my top priority. I also would prioritize: strengthening country and regional capacity to detect, prevent and manage health emergencies, including antimicrobial resistance; preventing and treating noncommunicable disease; addressing the health effects of climate change and fostering the partnerships and collaboration required to achieve the sustainable development goals; and importantly building a transformed, transparent and accountable WHO. As a former Minister of Health myself, I also understand that solutions have to be designed and owned at the local and regional levels, and I can commit that if I am elected, WHO will be a partner in that effort. I hope that you will continue to support my candidacy in voting at the World Health Assembly. In the meantime, if you have any questions or I can provide any additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact me through my email Tedros@DrTedros.com or via mobile at +251 91 151 1880 any time. I am also on whatsapp at +251 91 250 1402. My Best, Tedros Sent from my iPhone
