I hope you are keeping well. It is a privilege to be writing to you to
seek support for my candidature for Director-General, World Health
Organization. You will be pleased to learn that I have now been
officially nominated as one of the three nominees for the position,
after
being successfully elected by the WHO Executive Board on January 25,
2017.
The election of the Director General of the World Health Organization
will be held on May 23 and yours will be one of the 194 countries that
will make a critically important decision, one that will affect every
life on earth.
In this time of growing wealth gaps, migration crisis, environmental
degradation, humanitarian emergencies and disease outbreaks, your
decision in choosing the next DG of WHO will directly impact the
ability
of the organization to lead action on health challenges, which are
threatening to wipe out the developing gains of the last century.
If chosen to be the next Director-General, I will ensure that I build
a
strong global team that restores the WHO reputation, accelerates
reforms
and delivers on it's mandate with the highest levels of transparency
and
accountability.
My Vision for WHO
outlines 10 pledges that will ensure that the World Health
Organization doesn't just survive but that it thrives in the coming
years. It outlines the qualifications, experience, energy, and
personal
qualities necessary to deliver on my vision.
I am requesting in all humility that you choose me as your WHO
Director-General. I am deeply committed to delivering on WHO's mission
and ensuring that together we identify problems and fix them quickly.
I also have the honor of enclosing a letter from H.E., the Prime
Minister
of Pakistan and H.E., the Foreign Minister of Pakistan; these have
been
sent rough the diplomatic channel already to their counterparts
seeking
support for my candidature and this is for your information. Also
enclosed is a copy of the letter from H.E., Pakistan's Minister of
Health, a copy of which you may have already received. In addition, I
also enclose herewith my CV, and an aide memoire by the Government of
Pakistan.
