Dear Minister Sergeenko, Dr Barnard, Dr Magnusson, Dr Reitenbach,

 

At the 25th session of the Standing Committee for Regional Committee (SCRC), the Subgroup on ‘Countries at the Centre: The role of WHO at country level’ agreed to take European members of the Executive Board (EB) and the SCRC members on visits to WHO Country Offices.

 

The scope and purpose of these visits is to support and facilitate the discussions taking place in governing body sessions.  The visit will provide the governing body members with an opportunity to see how far WHO has influenced the strategic developments at country level, through the presence of country offices (CO) and sub offices.  These visits also aim to showcase how the Country Office achieves outcomes supported by HQ, the Regional Office and the centres of excellence – the geographically dispersed offices (GDO), further clarifying the different roles of all the levels of the organization at country level.

 

Following a call made at SCRC and through a letter to EB members by the Regional Director, there was extensive interest expressed in these visits by all the members.  The secretariat, under the guidance of the Regional Director, organized the interested members across the four planned visits. The countries have been allocated according to their expression of interest or availability of spaces to that particular country visit.  

 

The first visit organized by the WHO Regional Office for Europe is to Slovenia and will take place from 1 to 2 February 2018.  

 

The members invited on this visit are Iceland (SCRC), Georgia (EB), Germany (SCRC ex officio) and the Netherlands (EB). 

 

You are therefore cordially invited to join this visit and let us know if you are available to attend. 

                                                                                                         

As the WHO Regional Office for Europe is responsible for preparing all the travel arrangements and accommodation for this visit, we would like to hear from you as soon as possible and no later than Tuesday 16 January 2018.
