Dear Sopo,
(I also copy Prof Amiran (who has called today to learn some details about logistics), and my colleague Rusiko).
I was in touch with the reginal office and this is to confirm that Prof. Amiran’s travel can be covered by WHO Europe (Tuesday, 23 – Thursday, 25 January; 2 per diems + return ticket Tbilisi-geneva). Our office is working on his travel authorization (Irina).
We expect the travel costs for the minister to be covered by the WHO Headquarters. Unfortunately we have no funds available to cover the costs of travel for the other two members of the delegation.
The provisional programme of the session on country work looks as follows:
Wednesday, 24 January 2018 | |
13:00 – 13.15 | Welcome by Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director, and Dr David Sergeenko, Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs, Georgia |
13.15 – 13.30 | Health Achievements in Georgia Prof Amiran Gamkrelidze, Director of the National Center for Disease Control |
13.30 – 13.45 | Role of the WHO Country Office Dr Marijan Ivanuša, WHO Representative Georgia |
13.45 – 14.30 | Discussion |
Above is just provisional programme, as it needs to be cleared by the regional office/RD, but I do not expect any changes
In any case it means that both presentations given at the SCRC need to be shortened, and shall only focus on key issues. At the same time the focus of both presentations can remain the same as it was (so no need for change in the content, but they should be much shorter).
Dear Prof Amiran, if needed, we can meet in the following days, and discuss the details of the presentation. In principle the focus shall be on what are the main historic achievements of Georgia in the area of health, what are the current priorities and challenges.
I will work on my presentation in the following days and will be able to share it with you latest on Monday (15 Jan) early morning.
Finally, I would highly recommend that the minister attends a lunch hosted by the Regional Director (for the 8 EB members) planned for Monday, 22 January (the invitation will be sent to the minister soon).
The briefing on technical topics is planned for all EURO delegations for Sunday, 21 January from 15:00. All EB members are much encouraged to participate because the Regional Director and senior management share first-hand fresh information from Director General, but it is on the minister, to decide, if he can attend in person, or he will be represented by somebody else. In any case this briefing can be very useful for contributing to the discussions of the EB.
Hopefully the above answers to all your questions.
Best regards,
Marijan Ivanusa

Dear Marijan,
Please be informed that the Minister with the rest of delegation (Amiran Gamkrelidze, Sofiko Belkania, Mariana Mkurnali) will attend EB (first half, on 25th of January we are planning to have flight back to Tbilisi) and Georgia side event. Should the Minister attend the above mentioned events on 21st and 22nd of January?
I wonder if you received detailed scenario for the event focused on Georgia. Could you be so kind and tell me if WHO will cover travel expenses for the rest of delegation?
Looking forward for your answer.
Best regards,

Dear Sopo,
As discussed please find below information regarding the meeting of the EB:
· Sunday, 21 January from 15:00 a briefing on technical topics, this is for all EURO delegations, and EB members are much encouraged to participate because the Regional Director and senior management share first-hand fresh information from Director General
· Monday, 22 January the Regional Director plans to have a lunch with the 8 EB members, this is a working lunch with European EB members and EURO senior management, discussion is on technical matters, again an opportunity to get information directly from the Regional Director
· Wednesday, 24 January, 13.00-14.30; the Georgia side event;
For the minister the most interesting part of the meeting will be the first half, while the last days, Georgia could be represented by somebody else.
At the moment I have no detailed scenario for the event focused on Georgia. I think I will only be able to send that information in early January.
