Many thanks for your email. Based on your feedback we have amended the letter – please find attached a final version. We would be very grateful if you could help us to coordinate signature by Hon. Minister Lagvilava and by Mr Chiviashvili and return to me. I will then have this signed by the UICC leadership (who are now travelling) and return a final version to you.
Kind regards,
Rebecca

Dear Ms. Rebecca,
I would like to get in touch with you from the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia and provide our suggestions regarding the Letter of Intent.
Considering the role/involvement of the Ministry in this initiative, it would be more relevant if you could include the Ministry as one of the Parties and modify the last paragraph of the letter in the following manner: “Ahead of this announcement, this letter of intent confirms the intent and commitment of the Union for International Cancer Control, Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia and the City of Tbilisi to continue working together over the coming months on the development of a full Memorandum of Understanding, including clear roles, responsibilities and timelines for activity that will underpin and support the implementation of C/Can 2025 in the city of Tbilisi”.
Hereby, please take into consideration that Ms. Maia Lagvilava will sign the letter on behalf of the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia instead of City of Tbilisi.
After receiving the amended letter we will continue further proceedings.
Thank you for cooperation and support.
Kind regards,
Maia

Dear Ms. Rebecca Morton Doherty,
We are very pleased to know that our city Tbilisi has been officially accepted as a C/Can 2025 Challenge city. I would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Jeronimo and Ms. Isabel Mestres for comprehensive report that resulted in approval of our city involvement in the initiative. Hope this initiative will support our country to strengthen the cancer treatment solution and together we will overcome challenges in this direction.
I am copying the letter to the International department staff that will be involved in further communication process.

Subject: Next steps - Announcement of Tbilisi as a Challenge City
Dear Minister Lagvilava, Dear Mr Chiviashvili,
Thank you very much for your support.
As a next step, in preparation for the official announcement of Tbilisi as a Challenge City, I am happy to share with you a Letter of Intent that has been now been signed by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), confirming our intention to work together with the City of Tbilisi on a more detailed Memorandum of Understanding in the coming weeks. I would be very grateful if you could both sign the attached letter, and return to me via email by the end of this week.
As mentioned, we would very much like to announce this excellent news on July 5th, in conjunction with the Interactive Civil Society Hearing on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) taking place in New York. This is a great opportunity to make a public announcement, as there will be heightened press and social media coverage of NCD issues. UICC is holding a side event for the New York Permanent Missions to the UN on 5 July (the invitation is attached for your reference) – and we also have the possibility to include the announcement at this event as part of the discussion on C/Can 2025: City Cancer Challenge. UICC would like to invite the Permanent Mission of Georgia in New York to attend this side event – and will reach out directly – but we would very much appreciate your support in encouraging a representative from the Permanent Mission to participate and even say a few words from the floor about the selection of Tbilisi as a C/Can 2025 Challenge City. Please do let me know if you think this would be possible, and if there is someone in particular you think we should coordinate with.
In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.
Kind regards,
Rebecca

Dear Rebecca,
We are glad to hear that City of Tbilisi has been officially accepted as a C/Can 2025 Challenge city. I would like to express my gratitude to you and Dr. Jeronimo for your efforts and recommendation provided to the C/Can 2025 global team in the final stages of the qualifying period.
It is a great opportunity for Tbilisi and generally for Georgia to be part of this project. Even though Tbilisi has taken successful steps to create better environment for oncological patients, being a C/Can 2025 Challenge city will definitely help to develop oncological direction in Tbilisi and will be exemplary for different cities of the country.
I would like to confirm our readiness to be involved in the next steps you mentioned in the following weeks and looking forward to cooperate with you and the UICC group.
Sincerely yours,
Gela Chiviashvili

Dear Deputy Minister Maia Lagvilava,
It is my pleasure to inform you that the City of Tbilisi has been officially accepted as a C/Can 2025 Challenge City, following a final decision of Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Board of Directors.
As a next step, we would like to be able to announce this excellent news on July 5th, in conjunction with the Civil Society Hearing for the UN High Level Meeting on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) taking place in New York. This is a great opportunity to make a public announcement, as there will be heightened press and social media coverage of NCD issues. UICC is due to have a speaking role in one of the side events as part of the UN Meeting, and could use also this opportunity to make the announcement.
Before going ahead with a public announcement, we suggest a short ‘letter of intent’ be signed between UICC, the Ministry and the City, confirming our intent to work together on this initiative, and to work together over the coming weeks on a more detailed Memorandum of Understanding including our respective roles and responsibilities and a schedule of work. I would send a draft of this ‘letter of intent’ to you for review and signature this week. Similarly, I will also begin working with our communications team on a news release, and social media messaging around the announcement of Tbilisi as a Challenge City for this group to also review and use in your own communications on July 5th.
Many congratulations again to all, and thanking you in advance for your support. We are very much looking forward to embarking on this new initiative with the City of Tbilisi. In the meantime please do not hesitate to contact Isabel or I should you have any questions.
Kind regards,

Dear Deputy Minister Maia Lagvilava,
On behalf of the C/Can 2025 City Cancer Challenge team, I would like to thank you and the Minister Sergeenko once again for meeting with Dr. Jeronimo and I in Tbilisi last week. It was a pleasure to meet with you and learn more about the context for cancer care in Tbilisi. We were highly impressed by your full commitment to improve Quality access to Cancer Diagnostics and Care for Georgia and your interest in the City Cancer Challenge.
As mentioned during our meeting, the City Cancer Challenge is a multisectoral initiative supporting cities to take the lead in the design, planning and implementation of cancer treatment solutions. The City of Tbilisi is in the final stages of the application process to become a “Challenge City”.
Should Tbilisi go forward to become a Challenge City, your continued support, commitment and leadership will be critical to the success of the initiative, and we remain at your disposal should you have any additional questions, or require any further information.
In terms of next steps, Dr Jeronimo and I will provide a comprehensive report and recommendation to the C/Can 2025 global team, and provided we have a positive endorsement from the UICC board of directors – which we hope - we will share a draft letter of intent from UICC to be signed by the Mayor and Ministry of Health, outlining our intention to work together on a more detailed Memorandum of Understanding with clear roles and responsibilities, and schedule of work for C/Can 2025 activity. We would also work with you and the City on a communications package around the public announcement of Tbilisi as a Challenge City. I am copying Rebecca Morton Doherty, C/Can 2025 Head of City Engagement and Impact, who would will keep you updated and informed of next steps.
Thank you again for your time last week, and we look forward to being in touch soon.
Kind regards
