As a follow up to the emails regarding the Visit of Governing Body Members  to WHO Country Offices, I wonder, if the minister would be interested to visit the WHO Country Office in Kyrgyzstan.

Several country offices have been visited so far (Georgia, Slovenia, Russia).

 

The visit to Kyrgyzstan will be organized by the WHO Regional Office for Europe and will take place from 2 – 5 May  2018.  

Please, let us know, if the minister is interested in available for a visit, having in mind his busy schedule.

 

Background information:

At the 25th session of the Standing Committee for Regional Committee (SCRC), the Subgroup on ‘Countries at the Centre: The role of WHO at country level’ agreed to take European members of the Executive Board (EB) and the SCRC members on visits to WHO Country Offices.

The scope and purpose of these visits is to support and facilitate the discussions taking place in governing body sessions.  The visit will provide the governing body members with an opportunity to see how far WHO has influenced the strategic developments at country level, through the presence of country offices (CO) and sub offices.  These visits also aim to showcase how the Country Office achieves outcomes supported by HQ, the Regional Office and the centres of excellence – the geographically dispersed offices (GDO), further clarifying the different roles of all the levels of the organization at country level.

Following a call made at SCRC and through a letter to EB members by the Regional Director, there was extensive interest expressed in these visits by all the members.  The secretariat, under the guidance of the Regional Director, organized the interested members across the four planned visits. The countries have been allocated according to their expression of interest or availability of spaces to that particular country visit.

Please, be informed that I have double-checked with the regional office and the visit of the country offices is only intended for the members of the EB and/or SCRC, consequently replacements are not possible.

 

It is possible however that the minister decides to visit any other country office (i.e. Turkey) if he will not manage to visit the WHO CO Slovenia, as this is taking place a week following the EB session in Geneva, and perhaps he may not afford to be absent that much from the country.

 

Please, let us know by the end of the day today, if the minister is available for the mission to Slovenia.

The members invited on this visit are Iceland (SCRC), Georgia (EB), Germany (SCRC ex officio) and the Netherlands (EB).
