Referring to the discussion with Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab, Regional Director for Europe, during the lunch with European members of the Executive Board on 22 January 2018, I would like to preliminary consult with you about your interest to participate in the work of the governance sub-group of the Standing Committee of the Regional Committee (SCRC).

For several consecutive years now, the Standing Committee of the Regional Committee (SCRC) sets up a sub-group on governance matters. The governance sub-group is working throughout the year on governance matters important for the European Region, and elaborates proposals for the consideration of the SCRC, and reporting later to the upcoming RC sessions on its work.

As the Regional Director mentioned during the lunch, the next meeting of the sub-group will take place in Copenhagen on 12 March 2018, and this will discuss the global documents on governance which were submitted originally to the EB142 session in Geneva. As this is an important global document, the Regional Director believes that besides the SCRC members also the members of the Executive Board may be interested to take part of the discussion, and for this reason she would like to invite you to Copenhagen.

In order to plan the details of the meeting, I have some important preliminary questions, please:

-          Would you be interested to join the meeting of the SCRC governance sub-group on 12 March?

-          On 14 March, the Regional Office for Europe also plans to convene the traditional briefing day for EB members, SCRC members, and all interested Member States representatives. Do you plan to participate at that briefing or if you are already in Copenhagen for the sub-group meeting, would you be interested to stay for that meeting as well, please?

Your reply to these two questions will help the Secretariat to have a preliminary idea on the participants and the related logistical needs. As soon as we have the replies from the EB members to the questions above, the Secretariat will make the arrangements and send you a proper invitation letter with more details about the two meetings. In view of the short time left until the meetings, your urgent reply by Monday, 5 February, COB, would be very much appreciated, please.
