Dear Colleagues,

We have all been horrified by the growing Ebola crisis and its impact on families, health systems and economic infrastructure in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.

A number of you have asked how we as a company can help.  We have shared our capabilities to assist in the response with our clients in the region and stand ready to deploy as needed through our AIRS and SHOPS projects if we are called upon to do so.

As we have in other instances of catastrophic need, we are also making a corporate contribution and setting up a matching donation program to an organization working on the front lines of the response.

Abt Associates will donate $5,000 to UNICEF, and will match up to $5,000 in staff contributions to organizations working to stop the spread of the Ebola virus. Since the first days of the outbreak, UNICEF has been working throughout the region—in Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Senegal and Sierra Leone—to prevent further spread of the virus, distributing essential hygiene supplies and letting families know how they can protect themselves. Since the outbreak was declared, UNICEF and its partners have reached at least 5.5 million people in West Africa.

Donations to UNICEF will be MATCHED $1-for-$1 by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, doubling Abt’s contribution.  For UNICEF, 91% of every dollar goes directly to programs.

We suggest that staff who wish to contribute make their donation to UNICEF’s Ebola fund to take advantage of the additional match by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation.

Doctors Without Borders also has a major presence in the affected countries.  Please note that Doctors Without Borders does not have a specific fund for Ebola contributions.  If you want to donate by check, you can write Ebola on the memo line.

For the Abt Match:

Please send proof of your donation to an organization working on Ebola to Benny Pittman.  If you have already made a contribution, please send the documentation to Benny.

Deadline:

Please send your documentation/receipts to Benny by October 24.

Best,

Jay
