Dear colleagues who publish or plan to publish,

Consistent with our five year strategy to build reputational capital, we have emphasized the importance of publishing.  Thanks to your outstanding work, we are publishing and being cited more than ever.

In an effort to protect our right to publish and the resulting intellectual property, I have been working closely with Lisa Ashcraft and Krista Pages to develop a policy and procedures around publishing.  Please see the attached document.

This document has benefited from extensive input and careful review from many across the company, including Jacob Klerman, Ted Hammett, Teresa Doksum, Deputy Division Managers, and others. 

I recommend that you read the new policy and procedures because it requires those who want to publish to take some important new steps.

Krista Pages and Teresa Doksum will be presenting “Legal Issues in Journal Publication” on 4/30/15 from 2-3:30.  If you are not already on the JASG list, please email Kathryn Niforos to be added to the seminar invite.

In short, you must work with Krista Pages and/or Lisa Ashcraft when negotiating the right to publish with clients and when negotiating publication terms with publishers. 

These modest steps are important in our efforts to obtain the right to publish and increase the benefits from the resulting IP.
