Dear Colleagues,
I am excited to announce that we have hired Stephen Pelliccia, an international development expert with nearly 20 years of experience designing and implementing USAID and other donor-funded programs across a wide array of technical areas, to lead our International Economic Growth Division.
Steve currently serves as a senior vice president for Chemonics International’s Afghanistan region, where he leads a staff of 50 in Washington and nearly 400 field staff on five projects in Afghanistan. He has experience in a variety of technical areas, including rule of law; economic growth and competitiveness; natural resource management; and environmental policy reform. Previous leadership positions with Chemonics included Senior Vice President for the South America region, and the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region, chief of party for the $20 million Colombia Forestry Development Program, and new business director for the LAC region.
Steve spent several years at USAID, where he was a senior democracy and governance advisor in Colombia, overseeing a $24 million rule of law program and a $37 million human rights program for the mission. From 2000-2003, he served as the deputy director of USAID’s economic policy reform office in Russia, spearheading the design of the mission’s economic growth strategy and managing a broad range of economic reform activities. In Nicaragua, he was chief of party for a USAID environmental policy reform project, helping government and civil society counterparts to develop and implement key environmental laws and regulations.
Steve holds a J.D. from the University of Maine. He earned his B.A. in history from the University of Virginia.
We believe Steve’s extensive experience in business development and leading complex projects addressing economic, environmental and governance challenges will position IEG for success and is essential to the division’s future growth. He will officially join our team on February 2.
Best,
Jay
