DEADLINE IS AUGUST 3RD, 2015
Daniel B. McGillis
Development and Dissemination (D&D) Grant Program
The Daniel B. McGillis Professional Development and Dissemination (D&D) Grants were created in memory of a senior scientist and role model who had a keen interest in justice system reforms in the U.S. and abroad. Dan worked periodically at Abt Associates for more than 20 years before his untimely death in April of 1998. He was committed to making sure that Abt Associates’ work was seen and heard, and was contributing to public policy. More than 250 McGillis Grants have been awarded since the program’s inception in 1998.
Eligibility
Staff members at the Associate level or below in the international and domestic divisions are eligible to apply for these corporate grants, which provide funding and mentoring to help them publish in refereed journals.
Administration and Criteria for Award
The D&D Grant Program is administered by the Office of Reputational Capital and Technical Leadership. Applications are solicited twice each year. Award decisions are made by a Committee, balancing the following criteria:
Feasibility
The most important criterion is that the proposal will lead to a submitted – and ultimately published – paper. In general, that means a completed Abt report or dissertation and the right to publish without client approval.
Professional Development
One of the primary objectives of this program is to develop our staff, and, in particular, to develop a group of employees for whom external publication is part of their career path. In general, preference will be given to Senior Analysts and Associates because they need the most support to develop successful publishing careers.
Relevance to the Long-Term Strategic Plan
The D&D Grant program is intended to support the long-term strategic goal of increased visibility for Abt Associates and its staff. To assess relevance, the Fellows will consult with management (DVPs, EVPs, and the CEO).
Call for Applications
