To strengthen health outcomes through the private sector, the SHOPS project is implementing the HANSHEP Health Enterprise Fund, a challenge fund for health care entrepreneurs serving the base of the pyramid. Unlike other challenge funds, this one provides grants and technical assistance. Knowledge sharing is a large component of the activity. In June, SHOPS hosted an expo in Nairobi for the semifinalists from Kenya and Ethiopia. By clicking on the link to the video below, you can get an idea of the knowledge sharing and networking that took place.

The SHOPS project is USAID's flagship initiative in private sector health. It works to involve nongovernmental organizations and for-profit entities in addressing the many health needs of people in developing countries. The project focuses on increasing availability, improving quality, and expanding coverage of essential health products and services in family planning and reproductive health, maternal and child health, and HIV/AIDS prevention and care through the private sector.
