Dear Colleagues,

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake near Nepal’s capital of Kathmandu caused widespread devastation, and the death toll has surpassed 3,000.  Given the thousands of people injured and the level of destruction, it is expected that the number of fatalities will increase. Many governments and organizations have sent emergency supplies and personnel to Nepal. And many in the Abt community have reached out to me with a desire to help.  

Responding to situations like this is at the core of our company mission and community engagement efforts.  To support the relief work in Nepal, I have approved a $10,000 company donation to be made to UNICEF immediately.  UNICEF is currently  on the ground working to provide critical aid to children and families.  UNICEF has a proven track record and a four-star rating from Charity Navigator. 

I'd also like to encourage you to help. Our company commitment to UNICEF will be increased by matching staff contributions to Nepal relief up to $5,000.  You may make a contribution to any organization providing humanitarian relief in Nepal, not just UNICEF.  If you want a contribution to be counted toward the match, please send a receipt of your contribution to Benny Pittman in the Bethesda office via pouch or mail by Friday, May 8, 2015.  Thank you in advance for your support.
