Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Jack Downey will join the company as Senior Vice President, Business Development and New Market Initiatives. He will be working closely with me, the DVPs and subsidiary CEOs. The Director or our Global Business Development Unit, Katie Joyce, will report to Jack.

A senior executive with three decades of experience planning and managing large and complex technical assistance and training programs, Jack will develop and implement integration of improved business development processes across Abt’s businesses and facilitate cross-company and cross-market collaboration to better leverage company capabilities for business impact.

Jack is the President Emeritus and member of the Board of Directors of the Society for International Development, Washington, D.C. Chapter. Before joining Abt Associates, he worked for 23 years at the Academy for Educational Development (AED), reaching the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. AED had 2,500 employees and projects in 65 countries and all 50 states.

He most recently served as the head of Relation Building & Resource Development at the International AIDS Society in Geneva, where he implemented a comprehensive philanthropic, government and corporate fundraising program for IAS’ global policy and advocacy agenda. He began his career in international development as a Peace Corps volunteer focused on primary and vocational education in Kenya from 1975 to 1978.

I am confident that Jack’s experience at all levels of our business and his proven ability to develop partnerships with a range of donors—public and private—will be a huge asset as we move forward.

Jack holds a B.S. in Zoology and a Masters in Biology from the University of Michigan. He also holds executive certificates from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford Graduate School of Business, and Yale School of Management.  Please join me in welcoming Jack when he starts in early December in Bethesda.
