Thanks for joining us for the July 15 FY 16 Q1 IHD Global Staff Meeting! The meeting, facilitated by Katherine Brouhard, included staff from 20 countries in person and via audio and webcast. Abt Projects in Nigeria
· Dina Abi-Rached, Bethesda-based Technical Project Officer for PATHS2, gave overview of the current six projects working in Nigeria: Dfid PATHS2, USAID SHOPS Associate Award, USAID SHOPS, USAID HFG, USAID AIRS, Gates ICARE (sub to PACT).
Project Highlight: Nigeria PATHS2 Health Systems Strengthening
National Programme Manager Mike Egboh gave an overview of PATHS2 and shared the project’s exemplary accomplishments.
· Follow-on to PATHS1 (2002-2008), PATHS2 is a 6-year DfID-funded project (2008-2014)
· Implemented at all levels of governance with focus in 5 states (Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Enugu, Lagos)
· Granted 6-month extension in Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa and 2 years in Enugu and Lagos (2016)
· Goal: Nigeria's own resources are efficiently and effectively used to achieve the MDGs
· Purpose: Improve the planning, financing and delivery of sustainable and replicable pro-poor services for common health problems in 5 states
· Selected project results:
o 140,067 Potential lives of women and under-fives saved: 2009-2014
o 1,210,974 Pregnant women attended at least 4 antenatal care visits: 2009-2014 (increase from 17% to 57% in 3 Northern states)
o 467,631 Deliveries took place in facilities 2009-2014 (increase from 10% to 25% in 3 Northern states)
o 462,732 Deliveries by skilled birth attendants: 2009-2014 (increase from 13% to 24%)
o 997,754 Women improved knowledge of maternal danger signs: 2012-2014 (increase from 4% to 20%)
Reputational Capital
· Minki Chatterji gave overview of Q1 rep cap stressing the importance of rep cap as a vehicle to share our learning with others. Production of rep cap overall continues to rise. This quarter there were 5 peer-reviewed journal articles published as below. Anthony Leegwater and Ted Hammett each discussed highlights from their journal articles.
· Gael O’Sullivan discussed her participation in the World Social Marketing Conference in Australia in April stating that Abt had a high profile at the event with a panel discussion, oral session by Jordan JCAP’s Houda Khayame, an exhibit booth, and being a sponsor of the event.
