Colleagues,

As you know, last year we made a formal commitment to make environmental sustainability a priority for our company.   To that end, we developed an Environmental Policy and launched a company-wide Environmental Sustainability Program (ESP) to work with stakeholders from across our company to operationalize that commitment. Today, I am proud to announce two significant advances.

First, we published our inaugural Environmental Sustainability Report, which is an important milestone in our company’s path towards sustainability. The Report provides a baseline overview of Abt Associates’ environmental impacts in 2012 and a summary of the programs we implemented to manage our environmental footprint. I invite you to read the full report on www.abtassociates.com.  Conscious of production impacts, we chose to print a minimal number of copies, as we would like for the primary distribution of this report to be digital. You can download the report from www.abtassociates.com, or request a hard copy by emailing Environmental_Sustainability@abtassoc.com.

Second, I am delighted to announce that just 14 months into our ESP program, Abt Associates has been recognized by Bethesda Magazine for our corporate environmental sustainability efforts. The award will be presented at a ceremony Oct. 3 in Bethesda with more than 400 industry leaders in attendance.

Many people have been engaged in these efforts, and I want to particularly acknowledge Olga Faktorovich Allen, who leads the Environmental Sustainability Program, Al Dussi and the Facilities team, and the Abt EcoTeam for their contributions.  Please join me in congratulating them for these outstanding achievements.
