Dear Aleko and Keti,

I wanted to share that we had a very nice meeting with Tamara Siribiladze yesterday in our offices. It is not often that USAID comes all the way to our offices to meet – so this was very nice indeed.

She came with Rebecca Roth, of the E&E bureau. From Abt, Mark, Dasha, Suzanne and I attended the meeting.

Tamara was effusive in her praise of the HSSP project and of both of you and your team.  She repeated the praise that we have often heard that this project has been the single largest contributor to ensuring the implementation of universal health coverage in Georgia – not only due to the HMIS, but also due to the steps that preceded it.  She often mentioned your excellence, collaboration and contributions.

Tamara also mentioned the efforts to extend the project which are underway, but that future health funding in Georgia will not be available after that (which we knew).  Despite these efforts we assured her that we are committed to finding ways to build the sustainability of our collective efforts over the years and transition it to the government (if that is what the government chooses to do).

It was very nice to hear how much she praised the project, calling it the Mission’s flagship project in Georgia, and how proud they are of your achievements.
