Thanks John for the reminder.
I work with the Uganda IRS Project Phase 2. I have sent a request to the COP (Dr. J.B. Rwakimari) to forward a request for consideration for this grant to finalize and publish this paper based on the insecticide susceptibility studies conducted by MOH and Uganda IRS Project Phase 1 in 2012 entitled: “Pyrethroid and DDT resistance in Anopheles gambiae in Uganda” to be authored by: Okia, Michael1*, Ranjith de Alwis1, Rwakimari, John B.1, Kirunda, James1, Ssaka, Kenneth2, Muwonge, Constantine2, Hoel, David F.3, Corredor-Medina, Claudia J.3, Brogdon, William G. 4 and Wirtz, Robert A.4. (1 Abt Associates Inc, 2Vector Control Division Ministry of Health, P.O. Box 1661, plot 15 Buganda road, Kampala, Uganda, 3CDC/CGH/DPDM) (CTR), 4CDC/CGH/DPDM, *corresponding author). Some species analysis of the mosquitoes collected from the study is still on-going at CDC Atlanta. This request is in case the COP has not sent a request to you and we have beat the deadline.
Another Paper which we would like to publish is based on data collected from February 2012 to date on malaria vector bionomics (behaviour) comparing 2 indoor residual spraying (IRS) districts and one non-IRS district. Tentatively, the title of the paper to be published is entitled “Impact of IRS on entomological indices: comparison of IRS districts and a non-IRS district in northern Uganda”. The data collected clearly shows the effectiveness of IRS even in highly endemic areas and I believe, it will be able to increase the visibility of Abt’s work. Dr. David Hoel, an Entomologist from CDC was very much impressed with the data and was ready to help in its write up.
I would therefore be most grateful if we are considered for this grant to enable the Uganda IRS Project Phase 2 publish these 2 papers.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. Michael Eluga Okia | Entomologist/Vector Control Advisor

Dear IHD staff –
Please consider this important opportunity to improve publications skills and increase the visibility of Abt’s work. We had a very successful round of DD grants earlier this year and excellent experiences among the participants.

REMINDER!
DEADLINE IS AUGUST 5TH, 2013
Daniel B. McGillis
Development and Dissemination (D&D) Grant Program
The Daniel B. McGillis Professional Development and Dissemination (D&D) Grants were created in memory of a senior scientist and role model who had a keen interest in justice system reforms in the U.S. and abroad. Dan worked periodically at Abt Associates for more than 20 years before his untimely death in April of 1998. He was committed to making sure that Abt Associates’ work was seen and heard, and was contributing to public policy. More than 250 McGillis Grants have been awarded since the program’s inception in 1998.
Eligibility
Staff members at the Senior Analyst level or above in the international and domestic divisions are eligible to apply for these corporate grants, which provide funding and mentoring to help them publish in refereed journals.
Administration and Criteria for Award
The D&D Grant Program is administered by the Office of Reputational Capital and Technical Leadership. Applications are solicited twice each year. Award decisions are made by a Committee, balancing the following criteria:
Feasibility
The most important criterion is that the proposal will lead to a submitted – and ultimately published – paper. In general, that means a completed Abt report or dissertation and the right to publish without client approval.
Professional Development
One of the primary objectives of this program is to develop our staff, and, in particular, to develop a group of employees for whom external publication is part of their career path. In general, preference will be given to Senior Analysts and Associates because they need the most support to develop successful publishing careers.
Relevance to the Long-Term Strategic Plan
The D&D Grant program is intended to support the long-term strategic goal of increased visibility for Abt Associates and its staff. To assess relevance, the Fellows will consult with management (DVPs, EVPs, and the CEO).
Call for Applications
The D&D Grant Call for Applications available on the AGI Intranet provides current guidelines and application requirements. D&D grantees and other aspiring writers can participate in the Journal Authors Support Group (JASG).
