Bridging the Clinical Divide: Using Telehealth to Improve Patient Care in Remote Regions –
Dr. John Menzies, Abt JTA, Senior Medical and Hospital Consultant
Sponsored by the eHealth Technical Working Group and the Service Delivery and Quality Assurance Technical Working Group
Thursday, February 20, 2014 12:00pm – 1:00 pm
Bethesda, Monument Room / GoTo Webinar
Please join us for a brown bag discussion with Dr. John Menzies of Abt JTA (Australia), a long-time technical advisor in the domain of telehealth: using electronic connections to bridge the distance between patients and providers. For many years, JTA provided and managed clinical services for the large Ok Tedi (OTML) mine in the remote Western Province, Papua New Guinea. JTA developed a hybrid system that involved standard real time video-conferencing / examination service for the local doctors to consult with clinicians in major Australian hospitals, especially prior to medical evacuations, as well as a store and forward service between the mine and a local hospital that was provided free of charge by the Swinfen Charitable Trust (SCT) in the UK. Dr. Menzies will share his experiences in planning and sustaining telehealth programs in challenging environments in the South Pacific.
