Todd Cavalier and Steven Cypher from Informatics Studio, Presenters
Please join Todd Cavalier and Steven Cypher from Informatics Studio for an overview of the firm’s work for clients that include the US Institute of Peace, UN Development Programme, US Department of Education, NIH and SAMHSA. They will present their strategy messaging process for programs and demo the Knowledge Management System and collaborative framework as well as the data visualization and program evaluation tools the firm has developed for clients.
The Informatics Studio is an audience analysis, communications strategy and design firm with distinguished data visualization and program evaluation capabilities. The Informatics Studio designs and develops user-centric communication tools and resources, knowledge management systems, culture-specific communication frameworks, visual messaging, training and program evaluation tools primarily in five domains: International Development, Economics, Health, Education and Environment.
Todd Cavalier
Director, Informatics Studio
Prior to starting Informatics Studio in 1992, Todd taught design and applied communication theory at Carnegie Mellon University. Todd served as Design Program Specialist for the US Information Agency in their Eastern European Program. His designs of user interfaces for statistical software tools for visualizing American census data were sponsored by the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) and Sun Microsystems, and are included in the permanent Research and Technology Collection at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History as a Smithsonian Computerworld Award winner. His work has been published internationally and presented at conferences and speaking engagements focusing on design and technology. Todd has provided senior management and creative direction for many national and international communication initiatives, including population specific programs for the National Youth Violence Prevention Program, for the National Centers for Disease Control; the US Conference on AIDS, the National Cancer Institute’s Translational Science Program and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, for the National Institutes of Health; and Partnerships for Ending Homelessness, for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Additional experience includes international management of integrated communication programs for the UN Development Programme, the African Center for Economic Transformation, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the US Department of State.
Steven Cypher
Art Director + Program Manager, Informatics Studio
Steven utilizes an analytical + research based design approach to creating audience-specific communications, software interfaces, and branded communications for health, education and social marketing for Informatics Studio’s domestic and international communication programs. He has managed the design and development of complex communication programs, and applies sophisticated design principles to development of user-oriented systems for managing and delivering critical information to targeted audiences. A sample of programs for which he served as art director and program manager include the State Department’s International Leadership Portal (ILP), USIP’s International Network to Promote the Rule of Law (INPROL), the Clinical and Translational Science program at NIH, the grant’s management system for the US Department of Education’s Investing In Innovation (i3) program, and ongoing programs aimed at improving and managing the delivery of social services for SAMHSA.
