The Evaluation Methods Center

presents:

Private Sector Health Research:

Lessons Learned from the SHOPS Experience

Minki Chatterji, Presenter

Conducting research related to private sector health programs in developing countries in the USAID contracting world presents several challenges and opportunities.  Minki Chatterji will discuss the approach used by the USAID-funded Strengthening Health Outcomes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) project.  Chatterji will summarize the four types of studies the SHOPS project is conducting  (provider mapping, formative research, process evaluations, and impact evaluations) and discuss examples of each of these types of studies in greater detail, with a focus on impact evaluations.  She will discuss some of the challenges the project has faced in conducting RCTs, and how it has tried to overcome them.  In addition, Chatterji will discuss challenges specific to private sector health research that cut across all four types of studies.

The Presentation and A Handout are available on the Methods Center Webpage. Please print before the presentation.
