Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce another global priority bid win.

USH Wins Key $16.5M Award to Conduct Global Influenza Studies for CDC

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has awarded Abt Associates a new five year Task Order valued at $16.5 million for The Epidemiology of Influenza Virus Infections in Low and Middle-Income Countries.  Building on our previous influenza studies for CDC, Abt will expand our work conducting influenza studies beyond the U.S. to address critical knowledge gaps regarding the potential value of influenza vaccination programs in low- and middle-income countries.

This collaborative award involved Abt’s US Health (USH) and International Health Divisions (IHD), Abt SRBI, and Abt JTA.  In addition, Abt has partnered with FHI360 to assure Abt can go anywhere at any time to conduct influenza research around the world.

These studies will employ a variety of study designs, including retrospective studies using existing data, enhanced surveillance, and prospective case-control or cohort studies.  Although CDC has identified an initial set of target countries where these studies could be conducted, Abt’s first task will be to assist CDC with identifying and planning for up to 11 studies over the next five years.

“Influenza is a serious threat to public health, affecting tens of thousands of Americans each year. We are pleased to continue our work supporting CDC to advance research on influenza and pandemics globally.” said Dr. Christopher Spera, Division Vice President for US Health at Abt Associates.

Congratulations to the capture and proposal teams.  The capture team was led by US Health’s Pat Shifflett and included Sam Bozeman, Gabriella Newes-Adeyi, IHD’s Susan Scribner and Catherine Thompson, Abt SRBI’s Ken Gaalswyk, and Abt JTA’s Emma Thompson.

The proposal team was led by Gabriella Newes-Adeyi as the Technical Lead and Rick Tessier as the GBDU proposal manager.  Additional proposal support included USH Sarah Ball, Danielle Hunt, Leigh Mathias, Brandy Wyant, Alex Mijares, Rachael Wendlandt and IHD’s Susan Scribner, Catherine Thompson, Beth Brennan, and Laura Hensley with Courtney Long as FCA.   Pat Shifflett will serve as Project Director and Danielle Hunt as Deputy.

Best Regards,

Jay
