Dear colleagues:

I regularly hear about IHD staff who are not aware of the structures that we have put in place to encourage technical communication and collaboration within the division, in particular with field-based colleagues.  The purpose of this note, thus, is to provide basic information (or reminders!) about our Technical Segments and their respective Communities of Excellence.

IHD is organized around 10 Technical Segments (TSs) that reflect the Division’s priority technical or methodological areas. Each TS is tasked with organizing technical support to projects, supporting new business development, and strengthening and disseminating reputational capital created by division staff.  Each TS is managed by one or two co-leads, listed in the table below.

Among its many activities, each TS manages a Community of Excellence (CoE), which provides a platform for staff to engage in the activities listed above. CoEs keep members up-to-date on project achievements, state-of-the-art approaches, relevant literature.  CoE members can expect to receive articles, summaries, conference announcements, e-newsletters, and other technical resources on a regular basis. We encourage members to contribute content to their CoEs—CoEs are what their members make of them. You should see them as a space to share good news and ideas, ask questions, get information from colleagues, and be connected with the rest of the division worldwide.

The CoEs are open to all IHD staff and there is no limit on the number of CoEs you can join. Each CoE has a dedicated page on AGI with further information and technical resources. To access CoE pages, please visit AGI at: (Home > Communities > IHD Communities of Excellence (COE)). Also, please see the attached slipsheet that explains the TSs and CoEs and lists the contact information of the co-leads.

If you work in any of the technical areas listed below, have previous experience in these areas, or if you simply want to learn more about these subjects, please consider joining the relevant CoE(s). To do so, simply please email Elizabeth Magnusson.
