Abt Associates is working to prevent malaria in 18 countries. To mark World Malaria Day, today, April 25, we have created a video, an interactive map, and vignettes about all of Abt’s efforts to prevent and control malaria, and we sent the E-card below, signed by Diana Silimperi, to more than 4,000 people on our external lists. As Diana is on a well-deserved vacation, I want to share it with you on her behalf.

World Malaria Day 2013
A Disease We Can Defeat |
Malaria is the second leading cause of death from infectious disease in Africa, with pregnant women and young children disproportionally dying from the disease. It weakens hundreds of millions and kills hundreds of thousands each year. And yet it is preventable and treatable. As Abt Associates observes World Malaria Day on April 25, we highlight the impact of our work to reduce the burden of malaria across Africa. 
The theme for World Malaria Day 2013 is "Invest in the future. Defeat malaria." From carrying out indoor residual spraying, to working with governments to develop strategic malaria control policies, to helping health care providers improve their malaria treatment practices, Abt Associates is helping millions of people to protect themselves against malaria and access malaria treatment. As we observe World Malaria Day 2013, we at Abt Associates are proud of our work to help governments, health ministries and communities around the world roll back malaria. However, these gains can be lost without a sustained effort. We must remain vigilant in the fight against malaria.
