Welcome to the Secretary General’s perspective. At the beginning of each edition of the e-news, the ISSA Secretary General will introduce a priority social security topic and outline related ISSA services and products for members. High-level speakers and experts from the OECD, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations University will provide key input to the upcoming ISSA Regional Social Security Forum for Europe. This event is not to be missed, and will take place from 14 to 16 May 2019 in Baku, Azerbaijan, at the invitation of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Sharing ISSA’s knowledge on priority topics for the region and discussing the needs and expectations of member institutions were objectives of meetings of the Secretary General in the Americas.

A series of regional events was held during the past weeks, providing important opportunities for member institutions to exchange good practices and hear expert views on priority topics. 

Universal health coverage and social protection are key pillars to eradicate poverty and inequality, objectives that cut across all dimensions of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals agenda. Social security institutions play a key role in reaching this objective.

The first Vision Zero Global Strategy and Programme meeting was held in Geneva from 28 February to 1 March 2019 and chaired by the ISSA President, Prof. Dr Joachim Breuer. Gathering representatives from international organizations, ministries and national social security institutions from almost 20 countries, the meeting planned the next steps for the Vision Zero campaign.
