Secretary General’s Editorial
The World Social Security Forum 2019 (WSSF2019) concluded with a strong message about the key role of social security for protecting people. Our unique global gathering of more than 1,300 social security managers and professionals from 150 countries highlighted that people-centred and well-coordinated service provision, adequate use of information technology, due investment in human resources and appropriate leadership are key factors for social security’s capacity to innovate and ensure its positive impact in a rapidly changing world. This includes meeting some of the key challenges discussed during the WSSF2019, in particular changing labour markets, extending coverage, improving effective access and meeting the evolving needs of an ageing population.
