With just over three months to go to the World Social Security Forum (WSSF), a spectacular programme is taking form. It will include insights into the global challenges facing social security, innovative practices from member institutions, high-level speakers from policy makers, social security administrations and international organizations and much more. Don’t miss this unique opportunity for learning, sharing and networking in Brussels, Belgium, 14-18 October 2019.

A key focus of this WSSF will be showcasing innovation that is protecting people in a changing world. Modern societies are facing ever faster technological, economic and demographic changes. To keep up with this and to serve its citizens, social security institutions are major innovators. At the WSSF in Brussels, an Innovation Zone for ISSA members will demonstrate the latest innovative solutions for social security.

There is a special bond between the International Social Security Association (ISSA), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Brussels, and the WSSF will be a perfect occasion to celebrate this. It was in Brussels that the ISSA was founded in 1927 under the auspices of the ILO. The ILO itself is celebrating its Centenary, a 100 years of social justice, and our hosts are celebrating 75 years of social security in Belgium. A special session focusing on the ILO Centenary, looking towards universal social protection by 2030, will be a highlight of the Forum.

The ISSA is inviting its member institutions, partners and others to share stories about how social security protects people in a changing world. Share your stories via social media, websites and through other channels. Involve your communication departments, and share those stories using the hashtag #protectingyou2019. Some of the best examples will be showcased at the WSSF.

Register early to the WSSF to avoid any complications with visa procedures and to benefit from preferential accommodation rates. To ensure a smooth arrival, we encourage you to check the visa requirements, and, if necessary, start the application process no later than 1 August 2019. We also encourage you to book your hotel accommodation at the special negotiated rates as soon as possible, as there is limited availability in the official hotels.
